Above Normal Thursday Temps Across Eastern Oklahoma

Who’s ready for a nice warm up? Above normal temperatures are returning to Green Country for our Thursday.

Some nagging clouds during the morning hours look to give way to partly to mostly sunny skies for the afternoon. Temperatures will warm nicely today, but with a weak front hanging across the area we’ll see a large spread in afternoon highs. In the Tulsa metro, we’re looking for highs in the mid to upper 60s! But we’ll range from the lower 60s north of Tulsa behind that front to the lower 70s across southeast Oklahoma ahead of the front.

Clouds will thicken back up tonight, with primarily overcast skies on the way Friday. Despite the increase in cloud cover we’re still looking at another day of above normal afternoon warmth with highs in the upper 60s Friday afternoon and a gusty south wind.

Those gusty south winds will help usher in some unstable air by Friday afternoon, and as a strong storm system takes shape we’re looking at the potential for severe storms Friday evening into Friday night. The highest chance for severe storms late Friday will be near and to the east and southeast of Tulsa. Large hail, damaging winds, and even a few tornadoes will all be possible, so be prepared to stay weather aware late Friday!

Drier and cooler air will return to Green Country this weekend in the wake of Friday night’s stormy weather. We’ll see highs closer to normal in the upper 50s to lower 60s on Saturday with gusty westerly winds. Much colder, winter-like temperatures will begin to return on Sunday with the first of several cold fronts pushing into Green Country, with the potential for some light wintry precipitation by Monday. We’ll keep you advised!
