Broken Arrow Woman Thrown From Moving Truck As It Was Being Stolen

A Broken Arrow Woman is recovering tonight after being thrown from the bed of a pick-up truck.

Tulsa Police say the truck was stolen from an auto parts store while she was still inside. The woman tells me a million things were running through her head when this all happened.

She says she was trying to strap down a part in her truck when a man jumped in and took off and that's when she just hung on and hoped everything would be okay.

“My mind was going 90 to nothing trying to figure out the best way to get away without hurting myself,” said Zakiyyah Fatihah.

Fatihah says she was securing a part in the bed of her truck Saturday when a man walked over to ask for directions.

“He walks around while I’m distracted, mumbles something and then jumps in the truck,” said Fatihah.

She says the man started to speed off while she was still inside and all she could think to do was hang on.

“I was sitting about right here holding on and I had my phone in my hand calling the cops,” said Fatihah.

Fatihah says she was in the bed for about half a mile while the man was threatening to kill her if she didn't get out.

“My first reaction was I need to get out of this truck,” said Fatihah.

Fatihah says he continued to drive very erratically until she eventually fell out of the truck.

“I'd rather have scrapes and bruises than be in a ditch or somewhere hurt a lot more than what I am,” said Fatihah.

Tulsa Police say Fatihah was able to tell officers what direction the suspect was heading in and that's when they got into a short chase with him before he crashed into a pole.

“We were not able to find that guy at the time but we do have a great description of him,” said Sgt. Shane Tuell.

Sgt. Tuell says he admires Fatihah for trying to save her truck, but you should never risk your life for a piece of property,

 “You can always find a way to get your property back. Yeah it might be damaged like in the case we are looking at here but at least you have your life,” he said.

“People work hard for their things and someone decides not only are they going to take it from you but they want to put your life in their hands,” said Fatihah.

Tulsa Police are looking for a man in his twenties with a dragon tattoo on his arm who is known to frequent the area near Pine and Utica where the shop is located.
