The stretch run of superb weather continues as we round out the week, but rain is looming this weekend.

Clouds will be on a steady increase today, as we’ll go from mostly sunny this morning to mostly cloudy by late afternoon. Despite the increase in clouds, we’ll have more pleasant spring warmth for our Friday with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s and very light winds! It should be quite pleasant during the day for anyone traveling to-and-from the BOK Center today for the NCAA Tournament!

A few sprinkles may be developing as the last basketball game of the night wraps up in Tulsa, but the much better rain chances will hold off until early Saturday morning. A few waves of moderate to occasionally heavy showers and storms will spread across most of eastern Oklahoma Saturday morning. Thankfully Saturday’s severe weather threat is very low, but some lightning and locally heavy downpours will be possible. Rain looks to become a little spottier in the afternoon, but it’ll be a noticeably cooler day with highs likely holding closer to 60 degrees and a brisk southeast breeze.

Much warmer air will quickly return to Green Country on Sunday as an area of low pressure moves across the Southern Plains. A few scattered showers and storms will remain possible Sunday morning, before breaks of sunshine push us back into the lower 70s Sunday afternoon. That added heating and instability will lead to a chance for a few additional strong to severe storms from late Sunday afternoon into Sunday night, primarily across southeastern Oklahoma. Any storms later Sunday are likely to be isolated in nature, but those storms would be capable of some damaging winds and large hail. Stay weather aware late Sunday and we’ll keep you advised!

As Sunday’s system departs, another cold front will push into Green Country on Monday. This will bring us just a slight cool-down with highs back in the upper 50s to lower 60s on Monday and Tuesday as the kids head back to school from Spring Break. Another system is lining up to potentially bring more rain and storms back to Green Country by the middle of next week, as a more typical active spring jet stream slowly starts to take shape!
