Just weeks after recent mass shootings across the country, community members and state representatives came together Saturday morning for a national rally to demand gun reform.
"Specifically to expand background checks on all gun sales and to pass a strong red flag law,” said Oklahoma Moms Demand Action rally event organizer, Kay Malan.
Malan said the group is hoping to spread their national message and create non-partisan legislation.
“We're about gun violence prevention," said Malan. "We are not about taking guns away from anybody. But we do want common-sense gun laws to protect public safety.”
Local student groups were also at the rally signing petitions and getting more people involved in their movement. “I think students are in a unique position in this movement," said Students Demand Action member, Taylor King. "This is our future on the line and our voices need to be heard,” said King.
