Bixby Woman Prepares To Qualify For 2020 Olympics

A Bixby woman headed to Atlanta for a chance to qualify for the 2020 Olympics.

Stephanie Andre said she qualified for the trial Olympic marathon back in 2017, and she's one of four Oklahoma women who will compete at the trial marathon race in Atlanta. They'll compete against almost 500 other women from across the country. 

Stephanie said Saturday's race is different from other marathons. 

"This is a very challenging course. A lot of rolling hills; so, I wouldn’t consider it a course that many will run a personal record on,” said Stephanie Andre.

“It’s anticipated that people may be dropping out just because it’s a really difficult race,” said Andre.

Stephanie has run marathons across the country, and her family has been there to cheer her on. “My mom is convinced I’m going to make the Olympic team because she’s my mom," said Andre.

Andre said the nerves haven't set in yet and she's excited for Saturday. 

“For me this is going to be a celebration of the past several years of hard work that I put in to qualifying,” said Andre.
