Firefighters responded to flames at the Holly refinery located off Southwest Boulevard near West 34th Street  Wednesday afternoon.

Large black plumes of smoke could be seen for miles at around 1:15 p.m.

Refinery firefighters were able to spray foam on the fire to get it under control.  The refinery has its own crew of firefighters.

The refinery said as soon as they found out about it, their emergency response team was able to get the fire under control in less than an hour.

No one was injured.

According to the Department of Environmental Quality, the fire started in the wastewater treatment unit but they don't have any other information.

Tulsa Fire Department's assistant chief's office said they started getting calls about the smoke and investigated the cause. Holly Refinery told them they had the fire under control, so TFD did not respond, a spokesperson said.

Holly Refinery issued the following statement:

“HollyFrontier Tulsa Refining LLC confirms a fire took place at its East wastewater plant on August 8, 2018, at approximately 1:10 p.m. CDT. Our Emergency Response Team immediately responded and extinguished the fire. Our employees and contractors are accounted for and safe. No injuries were reported and we do not anticipate operational disruptions. We are monitoring the surrounding area and we don’t expect any impact to the community.”
