Community and faith organizations are working to help Green Country families during the Oklahoma teacher walkout. We have compiled a list of some of the organizations and churches that are offering help.

If you are involved in a group that is providing childcare to the public and aren't included here, please message us on Facebook with your plans, phone number, address and any other information parents and guardians will need to enroll.

Expanding its YMCA Elementary School Age Care Program to full-day care, including meals, in the event of a school suspension. The program is open to the students currently enrolled in the YMCA Elementary School Age Care Program with additional enrollment to other students as space is available. Space is limited at each school site.

Bixby

Bixby Outreach Center
Working with the Bixby Community Alliance and other members of the Bixby community, the Bixby Outreach Center will be providing food options for those in need. Details coming soon.

Daily Family YMCA
During the teacher walkout the Daily Family YMCA will be providing a childcare options to the Bixby community. Details coming soon.

Eight Acres Camp

Playtime Plus is a drop-in childcare center with hourly rates. They will be open extended hours during a possible teacher walkout, on a first-come basis.

Claremore 

From Operation Lunchbox:

The Ministerial Alliance is partnering with Mercy Chefs to prepare approximately 2,500 lunch meals and snacks each weekday of the walk out.  

The meals will be prepared and then be sent out to various community churches which will serve as distribution centers. Other distribution centers may be added as needs are identified. Distribution centers will be open from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM daily.

Parents we encourage you to take advantage of this FREE service between 10:30a -1p. If you can not pick up the food please contact the church DIRECTLY. They have made arrangements to deliver to any family not able to get to the site during the specified distribution times.

Collinsville

Collinsville Ministerial Alliance will use the facilities at the Middle School and CUE to package cold meals that kids can take home. Breakfast will be handed out from 8 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 to 12. Students can take their lunch at breakfast. Other distribution points may be announced.

Coweta

Community Baptist Church of Coweta

Coweta Food 4 Kids Program – will be delivering its weekly snack bags for students already in the backpack program.  Bags will contain notes telling parents about additional food items available during the walkout period. Coweta Assembly of God is helping with this project. Glenpool

In case the walkout does occur, all of our volunteers/staff have background checks and a campus police officer will be on site. "We will offer non-school day care for students currently enrolled in the Child Care Enrichment Programs the weeks of April 2 & April 9 if needed. The current plan is to offer care from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Early Childhood Center, East Elementary, West Elementary and East Intermediate for current customers. “Free Student Drop Off: April 2nd -12th, M-Fri, 8 a.m. -4 p.m., add’l $20 for before and aftercare available from 7 a.m. - 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. We will have basic soccer and basic dance lessons for those who want available. Also: Dodgeball, kickball, kids crafts, movies, Bounce World, volleyball, (basic) soccer lessons, indoor and outdoor games, snow cones and more!”

Jenks Food Bank

Morris

Morris Public Schools

Every student at Morris Schools can get a sack lunch at two locations from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday during the school closure.

McAlester

The Boys & Girls Club of McAlester

The Club will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the event of the school shutdown. Children must be at least in the first grade to attend the Club. 
McAlester Public Schools are providing meals to the youth of McAlester. There will be support staff to help the Club staff.

Muskogee

The Salvation Army of Muskogee is asking for help to feed low-income students if teachers walk out in April. They are having a food drive and ask for non-perishable items like peanut butter, jelly, cereal, rice, beans, ketchup, mayonnaise, corn, pasta, cooking oil, tuna, crackers, pudding, mac and cheese, Ramen noodles, Jello-o, canned chicken, fruit snacks, granola bars etc. You can bring the food by 700 Independence Street.

Owasso

Volunteers sought for Operation: Feed Our Students. Owasso Community Resources is partnering with the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma and Owasso Public Schools to provide food for students in the event of the shutdown.

In support of Oklahoma teachers and students, Theatre Tulsa will hold daily sessions of Broadway Academy if schools close due to the walkout scheduled for April 2. We will be holding classes during the day until all districts reopen. Classes include 8 hours of instruction from Theatre Tulsa’s education in the areas of dance, music, acting, technical theatre and will include time for studying. A morning snack and lunch will be provided to all students.  

This special session is intended for Theatre Tulsa students who need a place to be! This course is free of charge, however, enrollment is first come, first serve and space is limited. Learn more here

Pathways Adult Learning Center is offering 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. enrichment program classes to students with special needs aged 16+ during the teacher walkout. Skiatook

Several churches will be walk up sites for kids to come and get a lunch to go.  Bag lunches will be provided from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. each day through the walk-out.  Students may get lunch from the nearest distribution center to their house, or from any church that is a distribution center. Locations include:

Heaven Sent Food Pantry at the Assembly of God Church on Osage St.  will have extra food on hand and are waving all requirements—families may come and get groceries on Thursdays, 1-4:30 as many weeks as the walk-out lasts.  Other churches not listed as distribution sites  are pairing with these locations to help insure our children do not go hungry!  If you would like to help or donate at any of these locations, please let them know.
