Jenks Head Football Coach Allan Trimble has been named one of U.S. Cellular's Most Valuable Coaches in the country. Trimble and Doug Smith were selected out of 1,483 nominated coaches. They made the 50 finalists then were announced the top two on Monday, November 21, 2016.
"They've not only made an impact on their players and their teams, but also on their community," U.S. Cellular said in its announcement.
Coach Trimble earned $5,000 for his school. He will be honored at 1 p.m. January 1, 2017, at the Under Armour All-American Game live on ESPN.
"Can't tell you how many countless contacts that I've had," Trimble said. "Just people from all over the country, emailing, Facebooking, different things like that. Letting me and my family know how they support me."
The Most Valuable Coach program recognized coaches who lead by example, strengthening their teams and communities.
Nominators say: Coach Allan Trimble is a legend in Jenks, OK, in his 21st season as head football coach; his teams have won 15 state championships. Coach Trimble tried to retire this year as he was diagnosed with ALS. No one knew why at the time and the community was stunned and deeply saddened. It was then he revealed with what he had been struggling. Coach Trimble never slowed a bit, he showed up for every practice, coached every game, drove the JV bus and never missed a beat. #trimblestrong
Faron Griffin from Walters and Jeff Marshall from Wilburton were also in the running.
