Residents of one Cushing apartment complex are in a shelter after their building was damaged during Sunday night's 5.0 earthquake. The quake caused walls to topple and ceilings to collapse.

Cushing Public Schools, Cushing Senior Citizens Center, Cushing Public Library and Cushing Youth Center closed Monday as clean-up begins. There is also significant damage to the town's new fire station, the Lions Club and the town newspaper office.

Cushing Public School officials say school is cancelled Monday so crews can assess the school buildings and ensure the safety of the students.

A senior assisted living center called Cimarron Towers was evacuated. Forty-five to 50 people were evacuated, but many went with friends and family, the city manager said.

Residents told News On 6 they felt like they were in the middle of a car crash when the earthquake struck.

One woman was down the street from the center, but she was still injured in the earthquake.

"Next thing I know the wall comes down and hits me in the face," said Cheryl Tiger, earthquake victim. "I just pushed it back and jumped up. Then the lights went out."

For anyone displaced by the earthquake, the Red Cross has set up a shelter at the Cushing Youth Center on South Little Avenue. The Red Cross said they have 14 people at the shelter.
