Some fourth and fifth graders around the area have been studying kites this week; and Wednesday, Arrowhead Elementary students put their kites together.

Flight Night and the Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance have gotten kite kits to lots of Tulsa area schools, so it's kite week at Arrowhead and other places too.

"For a lot of kids, this will be the first time they fly a kite," said Arrowhead teacher, Denise Maguire.

Kites are kind of old school - not very electronic, but they are a good STEM trainer.

This week students have learned about the history of kites, the science of how they fly and the different kinds. The one they built were a sled kite design.

The big finale is they to take them to the University of Tulsa for a big Kite Fest. The young kite builders will be at TU Friday afternoon from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., flying the kites they made.
