The City of Tulsa has an entire district dedicated to the arts - The Brady Arts District.

On Saturday, an artist worked on the first step of a mural there aimed at highlighting how far one organization -- Arts Alliance Tulsa -- has come to its fundraising goal.

The Alliance is raising money that will be used to support local art institutions in the city, things like the ballet, theater and museums.

The fundraising campaign is loosely based on the United Way model, but instead of a thermometer to represent how far they've come… with each donation, the mural will grow.

"We are very much like the United Way in the way we raise money, except we are an arts organization,” Todd Cunningham said.
“So what better way to represent what we’re doing than to do it through art.”

When finished, Cunningham says it will be a model to all of Tulsa on how the community has supported the artistic movement here.
