OHP Trooper Shoots, Kills Man During Okmulgee County Water Rescue

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper shot and killed a man authorities say attacked the trooper during a water rescue on Hectorville Road.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper shot and killed a man authorities say attacked the trooper. Authorities say the officer-involved fatal shooting took place on Hectorville Road near South Memorial Drive in Okmulgee County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, they got a call saying a motorist needed help at about 9:20  p.m. Friday. The responding troopers found two men pushing a truck out of flood waters.

The trooper ordered them to get to safety as water was rising rapidly, according to OHP Capt. Paul Timmons. 

"As they were exiting the water, coming towards the troopers, a confrontation occurred," Timmons said. "One of the troopers was actually assaulted, and in defense of himself, he fired."

The other man from the stranded vehicle was taken to the Okmulgee County Jail. Timmons did not know what charges the man may face.

Dead is Nehemiah Blessed Fischer, 35, and the other man, Brandon Anthony Fischer, 42, was arrested.
