As the state reopens, more Oklahomans passing on the hotel rooms and are hitting the open roads in recreational vehicles.

American Dream Vacations on South Shields in Oklahoma City said the phone has been ringing off the hook with people looking for piece of mind while on vacation.

“It’s fast and furious,” said owner Randy Franklin.

Franklin has about two dozen rental RVs available for $130 to $250 a day. He's been in business in Oklahoma City for 20 years.

“With coronavirus, she (my wife) wasn’t comfortable staying in a hotel,” said Tyler Bartlett.

Bartlett is renting a travel trailer with his wife for the first time.

“We are going to be the only ones in this unit, it’s just us as a family and we feel safe here,” said Bartlett.

Franklin’s RVs belong to private owners who receive a portion of each rental fee.

Nationwide, RV sales have reportedly soared as summer plans are being upended.

“People aren't planning really far out,” Franklin said.

He thinks that will soon change.

“In the next two weeks, its going to get very slim on options,” said Franklin.
