Mobile delivery and driving services are taking extra health precautions to protect not only their customers but their employees too.

One local Lyft driver said he gives more than 20 rides a day with anywhere from one to three passengers per ride. Lyft driver Nathan Norris said he is going above and beyond to keep his car clean during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lyft adopted the philosophy of wearing a mask, sitting in the back and getting ready to roll. Uber and Lyft have regulations in place to keep both its riders and drivers safe. Some include wearing face coverings, keeping the front seat empty, and putting the brakes on Shared rides; even rolling down their windows when possible to keep the air moving. Norris drives for two ride sharing services. He said the companies have been great about caring for their employees and providing additional PPE.

"They actually sent a care package with a bunch of hand sanitizer, a bunch of cleaning supplies,” Norris said.

Norris said as many as 60 different passengers sit in his seats throughout the day, so he's added seat covers, offers hand sanitizer and disinfects his car in between rides.

"I've had people roll in with a scarf and they just hold it to their face,” said Norris. “Then I've had people wear a mask, and a face guard, and like gloves."

Norris doesn't pick up riders who show symptoms of COVID-19, and both drivers and riders can cancel without penalty.

"Usually if the vehicle's nasty I try not to get in it,” said Nicole Wright, customer. “I'll tell them that I can just find another one."

Wright said she appreciates Norris' dedication to keeping his car clean.

"It makes me feel very blessed and very safe,” said Wright. “You know, because everyone's health is at risk right now."
