The Tulsa police department has released its annual report for the first time in almost 15 years. It's full of accomplishments and data so citizens can see what officers are doing.

Chief Wendell Franklin said the department has been working on the nearly 100-page document since he became chief in February, and he said it's a source of pride for officers and gives transparency to the community.

Chief Wendell Franklin said the 2019 annual report is the first one in more than a decade for the department after the department scrapped it due to a lack of time and money.

"It was developed from nothing, since we haven't had one in more than 10 years, so we were starting from ground 0," said Franklin.

The 97-page document introduces citizens to different divisions and departments within TPD.

It also highlights accomplishments and changes in the department, like new hires, more bias and body camera training and a special page dedicated to Chief Chuck Jordan's retirement.

"It's more like a yearbook, but it gives you a glimpse at everything we're doing at Tulsa police," he said.

Chief Franklin said he's most proud of the section highlighting special awards and medals honoring impressive work.

"Let them get a glimpse and to see each of those individual officers that worked hard over the years," said Franklin.

Chief Franklin took office in February and has led the department during an incredibly difficult year: a pandemic, a presidential visit, protests, and an officer killed in the line of duty.

He said the annual report writes a history for future officers.

"It does show that historical piece. This 2020 one, when it comes out it'll be something people will sit back many years from now and be in wonder," he said.

The 2019 internal affairs report with information on deadly force and misconduct allegations was also released.
