An investigation is now underway after a Fort Sill soldier was found dead in his room over the weekend.
According to officials at Fort Sill, Private Second Class Maverick McDowell was found unresponsive in his room on Saturday. McDowell was assigned to the 30th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.
Officials said McDowell's cause of death is not related to COVID-19 or any field training exercises, but they have not released his official cause of death.
According to officials, he had been attending a professional development course since he arrived to the post in November of 2020.
Major General Ken Kamper said in a statement saying, "we are heartbroken by the tragic loss of one of our Fort Sill teammates. We send our deepest condolences to McDowell's family, friends and fellow soldiers."
