An apparent decision by Democratic leaders in the U.S. Senate to vote on Wednesday to begin debate on the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure framework appears to be premature and likely to fail.
Republicans in the Senate, including Oklahoma Senators Lankford and Inhofe, have indicated they will vote no on the procedural move because, they say, the bill is not yet finished and no one knows exactly what is in it. 10 Republicans would have to join all 50 Democrats in voting yes, in order for the debate to begin. Republicans involved in negotiating the package have indicated, if Democratic leadership would wait until next week, they could probably get the necessary GOP support.
Wednesday at 5 p.m., Washington Bureau Chief Alex Cameron will have the latest details.
