Preparations are underway this week for the Tulsa State Fair with only eight days until opening day. This year will be the first time in two years the Tulsa State Fair will be full-fledged. Last year it was scaled down due to the pandemic.

Tulsa fair officials say they are happy to report there will not be much changing this year compared to the 2019 Tulsa State Fair.

Setup has already begun for the rides and vendors. Anyone driving by Expo Square this week will get a sneak peek at some of the rides towering above some of the buildings.

“Every year we build a small city there is a lot of behind the scenes that goes on to making the eleven days of awesome,” Amanda Blair with the Tulsa Fair said.

According to fair officials, they are following the Tulsa Health Department's COVID-19 guidelines when it comes to masking and physical distancing and will continue to monitor any new developments as we get closer to opening day.

Officials did not say whether or not masks would be required inside the buildings. They say they will put out information on guidelines as needed when the start date is closer.

The Tulsa Health Department will be offering free COVID-19 vaccines Monday through Friday inside the Expo Center. No appointment is needed.

Tulsa Fair Chief Operating Officer Amanda Blair told News On 6 one major change people may notice this year is they have canceled the free shuttle service. She said it has been determined that not enough people have been riding it. People will need to pay to park at the fairgrounds this year.

The fair will open next Thursday, September 30th and run through Sunday October 10th. More than 60 rides will be available, several big-name concerts, a flying jet pack show in an Olympic-size swimming pool, and of course the livestock shows and nearly endless food vendors.

“We’re very excited,” Blair said. “The Tulsa State Fair is such a significant event for our community, it overall has $50 million dollars of economic impact, so that’s a huge number and we are excited to be back in full swing and being able to contribute to our community.”
