If you still need to get a Halloween costume, you can shop for one while taking in a show this weekend.
The family that owns SpotLite Magic and Costumes in Tulsa is putting on magic shows inside the store. The tricks are also treats at the Magic Attic Theater. Tucked in the back of the costume store, there’s a 50-seat theater where the magic shows happen.
Owner and magician Michael Platten says he's been performing magic tricks since he was eight years old. Now, it's a hobby and side gig. There’s also a young magician, Mike's 10-year-old daughter Sophia. She has her own acts, and they do some together.
Since October is SpotLite's busiest month, magicians have been performing several shows on Saturdays. You could see an illusionist sawing someone in half, a notepad drawing turning into a bowling ball, or even mind reading.
"It's helped me develop who I am now. It is a hobby, but it's also a side profession like you can see. But like I said, the Magic Attic Theater has been a dream of mine since I was kid. I was like, wouldn't it be cool to have my own theater one of these days?” Mike said.
"It just makes people happy, and it makes me happy. And sometimes, we make people laugh every once in a while, and it's just so much fun,” Sophia said.
There are shows happening Friday night and throughout the day on Saturday. The Saturday shows are $5 each. Tickets are available online or at the door.
After October, there will be evening shows happening a couple of times a month.
