OSBI Investigates Body Found In Bethany Drainage Ditch

Bethany police called in investigators from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation after a body was found in a ditch. 

The body was found before 11 p.m. Wednesday night near the intersection of Northwest 29th Street and North Peniel Avenue.

A neighbor, who lives near the ditch, said he didn't know someone had been killed next to his home until he saw bright lights shining through his windows.

"There was a lot of lights like in the little cul-de-sac here,” neighbor Markell Williamson said. “They were bright. It was like LEDs.”

Those lights came from Bethany police after they found the body. The department called in OSBI to investigate.

"I've been home this whole time. Didn't hear anything or nothing like that,” Williamson said. “The dogs didn't go crazy or nothing. I don't really know what to think. It's sad."

State investigators have not released the victim's name.

"They [police] said that there was a fight, and they were looking for evidence,” Williamson said. “That's about all I got out of them.”

Hours after investigators cleared the scene, a memorial was placed right by the ditch.

"I left around 8 and it wasn't here this morning, so somebody put it there," Williamson said.

Williamson said he's lived on the block for about six years. While the sound of gunshots isn't unusual, he said this the first time someone has been killed so close to home.

"It makes me kind of curious as to why they chose this specific location. It's pretty obvious it's well lit. It's open. So, I'm not sure why it's this location,” Williamson said.

One person is in custody. OSBI has not released the suspect’s name.
