Former University of Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops will serve as interim coach in the wake of Lincoln Riley's departure Sunday.

The announcement was made Monday during a press conference held at the Barry Switzer Center in Norman.

Riley accepted the head coaching position at the University of Southern California Sunday after amassing a 55-10 record in five seasons with the Sooners.

Oklahoma lost to Oklahoma State Saturday night 37-33.

"I am truly excited to come to USC and join the Trojan Family as its new head football coach. USC has an unparalleled football tradition with tremendous resources and facilities, and the administration has made a deep commitment to winning. I look forward to honoring that successful tradition and building on it," said Riley in a statement released by USC. "The pieces are in place for us to build the program back to where it should be and the fans expect it to be. We will work hard to develop a physical football team that is dominant on both lines of scrimmage, and has a dynamic balanced offense and a stout aggressive defense.

Stoops amassed a 190-48 record, including a 9-9 record in bowl games, over 18 seasons in Norman. Under Stoops' leadership, the Sooners won a National Championship in 2000 and also made two other national title game appearances in 2004 and 2008.
