Poll: President Trump Endorsement Could Prove Crucial For US Senate Victory

The endorsement of former President Donald Trump could prove crucial for victory in Oklahoma’s U.S. Senate race, a News 9 / News On 6 poll shows. 

The poll asked 306 likely GOP primary voters, “If President Donald Trump endorsed a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat that is being vacated by Sen. Jim Inhofe, how would it be helpful in making your decision?” 

More than 20% of those asked said the former president’s endorsement would seal the deal. They would vote for whomever he endorsed. However, 43.7% of those polled said the endorsement would cause them to consider voting for the endorsed candidate. 

The same poll showed 31.4% of Oklahomans undecided about who to choose among GOP candidates for senate. Leading this poll were Rep. Markwayne Mullin with 38.3% and former Oklahoma speaker of the House T.W. Shannon with 16.4% support. 

More than 27.6% of those asked said that the former president’s endorsement would have no bearing on their selection. 

Oklahoma’s primary election is set for June 28, and a runoff, if necessary, would happen August 23. The state’s general election will be November 8.
