Utility May Make Customers Pay Small Increase For Losses

Thousands have endured the inconvenience of having no electricity. Now many are wondering if they will also share the financial burden the storm has left on the utility companies. OG&E says last week's ice storm is the worst in the company's 105 year history. Damages are hard to calculate right now, but the utility company believes it is losing at least $3 million per day.

Thousands have endured the inconvenience of having no electricity. Now many are wondering if they will also share the financial burden the storm has left on the utility companies. OG&E says last week's ice storm is the worst in the company's 105 year history. Damages are hard to calculate right now, but the utility company believes it is losing at least $3 million per day.

OG&E was asked if customers will be forced to share that cost through a rate hike.

"When we encounter an extraordinary event like this type of storm outage it may very well be that we need to ask the Corp. Commission to recover those costs over a long period of time. The likelihood that a customer would particularly note any type of increase is relatively small," said OG&E Spokesperson Gil Broyles.

Gil Broyles says that's because any rate increase would be extended over a long period of time.
