New Mexico Nachos Grande

Tex-Mex/Appetizer-Side Dish

8 ounces 93% fat-free ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
1 tablespoon water
2 cans (15 ounces each) 99% fat-free turkey chili with beans
1/2 cup tomato sauce
1 package (1.25 ounces) reduced-sodium taco seasoning
6 ounces low-fat baked tortilla chips (about 6 cups)
1/2 cup shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese (1.5g fat per ounce)
1-2 tablespoons seeded, chopped jalapeno pepper
1/2 cup chopped green onions
1 1/4 cups salsa

Preheat oven to 350O F. In a large skillet, brown ground beef and drain. Add onion and cook over medium heat until tender. Add water, chili, tomato sauce and taco seasoning. Reduce heat and simmer approximately 10 minutes. Place chips in 9- x 13-inch baking dish. Spoon beef mixture over chips. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake for approximately 10 minutes or until cheese is melted. Garnish with jalapeno and green onions. Serve with 2 tablespoons salsa per serving.
