A new grocery store could be coming to north Tulsa and it's shopping for employees. Investors behind Freedom Mart held a job fair on Friday. News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon reports many people were lining up for the available positions.

Tulsa investors are reportedly behind the grocery store project. But, none of them has spoken publicly about if or when the store will open. Hundreds of people showed up on Friday at a job fair hoping to land one of the positions.

"Ever since Albertson's left, I think we've all felt it. We miss that store," said Rosa Wallace of north Tulsa.

And the freedom that came with it.

"It's been a challenge because we have to go further to shop of course," added Rosa Wallace.

"We're a community over here and we deserve to go to the grocery store and not have to go out on 41st and Yale or all the way to Owasso to shop," said Bennie Washington of north Tulsa.

A group of local investors is trying to change that. They want to bring a grocery store called Freedom Mart to the north side. The group hasn't announced its plans or said if a deal is in the works, but the group is already shopping for employees. Hundreds showed up to Rudisill Library hoping to fit the bill.

"I was really glad about it. I mean it's about time," said Bennie Washington of north Tulsa.

"If they open the store where they say they're going to open the store then it would be easy for me to walk back and forth work," added Cherliesa Hopkins.

The job fair continues on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Rudisill Library. There's talk the store could move into the old Albertson's building near Pine and Peoria, but there's still a for sale sign out front.
