Space week at a Tulsa school

Some Tulsa kids have their head in the clouds this week and far above. The 6th grade students at Saint Pius X are hosting Space week.

Students will explore the wonders of space through daily trivia contests, songs and other fun stuff. The major focus for the 6th graders will be designing and building a full size space shuttle and space station. Once they are completed, the students will run a mock mission and launch an explorer to the moon.

Science teacher Mary Jo Othon: "We'll have the entire student body out watching the launch and I hope it gives them a feel for what it's like in space or what they could be looking at in their future. We're looking to return to the moon in the next decade so this is their future."

Other classes will launch water bottle rockets and build three dimensional models of space aliens.
