With severe weather season here, many people may be considering a safe room.

Jim and Angie Field of Sand Springs got a safe room installed in their garage last year. Before getting it, Angie says she was always uneasy when storms rolled into town. Having a safe place to go gives the family peace of mind.

Jim Field: "If you're in the house and a storm comes up, it's as simple as walking out in the garage, getting in, shutting the door, taking the kids and you're there."

If you're interested in getting a safe room, the National Storm Shelter Association says you should check to make sure it meets safety guidelines. That includes three locks on the door and adequate ventilation.

You should also ask for plenty of references.
