HOUSTON (AP) _ Baker Hughes in Houston says the number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in the U-S this week jumped by 25 -- to reach one-thousand, 571.

One year ago the rig count was one-thousand, 331.

Texas gained 20 rigs, while Colorado added two.

New Mexico and Wyoming gained one rig each.

Louisiana lost two rigs and Alaska is down one.

The California and Oklahoma rig counts were unchanged.
