There will be a recount in the Tulsa city council district 5 race.

Republican councilor Bill Martinson [pictured left] won re-election by a slim margin - just one fourth of one percent of the vote. His Democratic challenger Jon Kirby [pictured right]has asked for a recount of the ballots, and asked a judge to look into the possibility that people outside of the district were allowed to vote.

Late Friday, the Tulsa County Election Board finished the paperwork asking for the hearing and ordering the recount, both of which will start Wednesday at the Tulsa County courthouse.

The election was close - Martinson won by just 21 votes, with over 8,000 cast. His opponent believes it's close enough to question. Jon Kirby: "That's the main issue, we owe it to the voters. I've been getting lots of calls from supporters urging me to do this and we need to get it right."

Bill Martinson: "I was really hoping that we wouldn't have to go through something like this, we've had enough controversy going on."

The accusations include precincts with more ballots cast than signatures, some signatures not witnessed, some absentee ballots not properly completed - and a claim that at least 11 people who voted actually live outside the district.
