OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Nearly 1,000 ideas have been submitted for the design of the state quarter for Oklahoma.

A committee is going through the proposals this week as they work to choose about 30 ideas. That number will eventually be reduced to five.

The five will then be sent to the US Treasury Department with one design to be chosen.

The state quarter is to be issued in January 2008 but a prototype is expected to be shown during statehood centennial events in November 2007.
