OKMULGEE, Okla. (AP) -- The city of Okmulgee must pay a $900,000 fine to settle ten year's worth of sewer problems.

The fine is part of a proposed consent decree awaiting approval by a federal judge in Muskogee.

Officials with the state Department of Environmental Quality say that since 1996, the city's treated sewage has exceeded federal and state limitations.

Officials say overflow from manholes has also been a problem.

According to a court document, Okmulgee officials have already agreed to pay the fine.
