BENNINGTON, Okla. (AP) -- Bryan County authorities say a 4-year-old boy is dead after falling into a well and drowning.

Deputies say the boy was first reported missing, then was found inside the eight-foot deep well near the town of Bennington in eastern Bryan County.

The boy's name hasn't been released.

Deputies say the well was covered but the boy fell through the cover. Family members used a rope to lower one person into the well and pull the child out.

He was taken to a Texas hospital where he later died.
