State House Wants National Anthem Sung In English

Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A state House resolution passed 71-13 encouraging the National Anthem to be sung in English.

A Spanish-language version of the national anthem, called "Nuestro Himno," which means "Our Anthem," debuted last week.

It features several Latino artists and has stirred controversy because it rewrites some of the English version.

The state resolution encourages immigrants to learn the anthem in English "so that they may be unified with the country to which they have chosen to pledge their allegiance."

President Bush has said he believes people who want to be US citizens should learn to sing the national anthem in English.
