Beefing Up Oklahoma's Blood Supply

The annual Beef Council blood drive and cookout was held Friday.

Everyone who donated blood recieved a free hot dog, T-Shirt, two Redhawks tickets, plus a chance to win a number of prizes, including a Caribbean Cruise.

The Oklahoma Blood Institute says blood donations this time of year are critical, because supplies are running low. OBI manager Vickie Holkum: "You can give blood and when you give blood you are just making sure that it's going to be on the shelf for you, your friends and your loved ones.”

More than 1,200 units of blood were used last Memorial Day weekend. The OBI says they have less blood on hand than they did last year.
