NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Oklahoma has hired KJ Kindler away from Iowa State to become the Sooners' new women's gymnastics coach.

Kindler last season led Iowa State to the Big 12 title. For the first time in school history, the Cyclones were among the six teams that qualified to compete for the national championship.

She takes over for Steve Nunno, who resigned last month.

In six seasons at Iowa State, Kindler was 79-40-and-1 in duals.

Her husband, Lou Ball, was an assistant on her staff at Iowa State and is expected to become an assistant at Oklahoma.

Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard says he offered Kindler a five-year contract extension and a 60 percent raise to stay, but Kindler left because she wanted a new practice facility.
