OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A portion of Interstate 44 in southwest Oklahoma City was closed for a time on Thursday after the intense heat caused the pavement to buckle.

The two inside lanes were closed for emergency repairs.

State Transportation Department spokeswoman Terri Angier says permanent repairs will begin next week.

Angier says it isn't unusual for roadways to buckle at this time of year and eastbound lanes of State Highway 66 buckled in the Yukon area and was temporarily repaired last weekend.
