Hazardous Material Team Investigates Powder At State Prison

McLOUD, Okla. (AP) -- A suspicious white powder discovered Tuesday morning in an envelope at the Mabel Bassett Correctional Center was determined to be corn starch.

Joyce Jackson with the state Department of Corrections says the letter was found on the floor of a counselor's office in a prison housing unit.

A hazardous materials team was called to the prison, and the inmates were locked down, but no evacuations were ordered.

The center is a maximum security prison for female inmates east of Oklahoma City near McLoud.
