EDMOND, Okla. (AP) _ An Edmond man has been arrested for first-degree murder in the weekend death of his girlfriend's 3-year-old son.
Police say 25-year-old Jeremy Lakey was arrested in the death of Damion Brinkley-Dunn after the state medical examiner reported the boy died of a skull fracture and had at least seven injuries around his head.
Paramedics were called Saturday night to an apartment in north Edmond near the University of Central Oklahoma where Lakey lived with the boy's mother _ Sarah Brinkley. The boy was taken by helicopter to an Oklahoma City hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police spokeswoman Glynda Chu says Brinkley left the boy with Lakey for about 15 minutes while she and a friend went to a store and as she returned he called her cell phone to say the child was having trouble breathing.
Chu says Lakey was the only adult with the child and the boy had been crying because he wanted to go to the store with his mother.
