Burn ban in Ouachita National Forest is lifted

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) -- The National Forest Service is lifting a burn ban for the Ouachita National Forest.

Most of the forest is in Arkansas, but it extends into southeastern Oklahoma.

Fire Management Officer Jim Burton says the forests received rains this week, but warns that the area is still below the yearly average for rainfall and the public should use caution when using campfires or charcoal grills.

The Forest Service says a state-issued burn ban for McCurtain, LeFlore, Choctaw, Latimer and Pushmataha counties remains in effect.
