OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association and the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board are announcing a joint project to recruit oil field workers.

The Oilfield Workers Initiative is an attempt to replenish a dwindling pool of oil field workers.

The OERB also announced it has established a $300,000 college scholarship program to recruit and retain future petroleum industry professionals.

OIPA spokeswoman Susan Webb says the industry created 4,500 Oklahoma jobs last year and a similar amount is expected to be created this year.
