OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ An Oklahoma City charter school is naming its auditorium in honor of a former student who was killed earlier this year in Iraq.

Army Warrant Officer and helicopter pilot Steven Shephard of Purcell died in January when his Apache crashed near Baghdad. Witnesses have said the helicopter was hit by a rocket.

Now the Advanced Science and Technology Education Center in Oklahoma City is naming its auditorium the Steven E. Shephard Auditorium.

Shephard attended the school's aerospace summer camp program and taught at the camp in the late 1990s before joining the Army in 2002.

City officials in Purcell have also added Shephard's name to the city's airport.
