The Tulsa Chapter of the American Red Cross has been on the forefront of hurricane relief efforts. Now as Wilma churns toward the gulf, volunteers say they could use some relief.
The hurricane season has kept Red Cross volunteers around the country very busy. Tulsa is no exception. After tirelessly working in hurricane shelters, organizers say they need help.
Jo Ann Woody with the Tulsa Red Cross: "Our experienced volunteers, they've been out, they're tired. Its time for them to kind of take care of things on the home front. So yes, we are working very hard right now to try to recruit and train new volunteers for the continued hurricane effort."
The Red Cross is holding classes practically everyday to get a fresh round of volunteers ready to serve.
Officials say all a good volunteer needs is some spare time and an open heart.
