Weekend visits canceled at Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite

Updated:
GRANITE, Okla. (AP) _ Weekend visits are canceled for this weekend at the Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite because of two fights among inmates at the prison.

Prison officials say the racially motivated fights on Sunday and Tuesday left eight inmates injured and the prison is in lockdown.

The fights have led to renewed calls by Democratic lawmakers for the state House to meet in special session and approve additional funding for the Department of Corrections. The Senate has approved the funding, but Republican House Speaker Todd Hiett has said he believes the issue can be resolved during legislative session that begins in February.
