HAILEYVILLE, Okla. (AP) _ Authorities say a McAlester man dies when his vehicle left a wet Pittsburg County road and hit a tree.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 24-year-old David Joe Sherrill was pronounced dead of massive injuries at the scene of the accident about 2 PM Saturday near Haileyville on Oklahoma Highway 63. Sherrill was pinned for about 20 minutes before he was freed by Haileyville and Hartshorne firefighters.
Troopers say three others, including two children, sustained injuries and were in stable condition at hospitals in McAlester and Tulsa.
The patrol says Sherill's car was headed east on the highway when it failed to negotiated a curve, ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree.
Troopers say the car's occupants were wearing seat belts.
