A family survives a scary plunge into a Catoosa creek

A mother and her two sons have plenty to be thankful, after a dramatic rescue in Rogers County. One of the boys is being called a hero.

6 in the Morning reporter Omar Villafranca says a young man has his older brother to thank for his life. It all started a little after 7:30 PM Tuesday.

A mom and her two young sons crossed a one-lane bridge near the Reasor's on state highway 66 in Catoosa, when the mother lost control of their SUV. The vehicle went down an embankment and wound up in the water.

Emergency crews arrived and found the vehicle halfway submerged in a very cold creek. At first, rescuers thought one of the boys was missing and prepared for a water rescue. But they got the good news, the missing boy had been found.

Jason Rogers with the Catoosa Fire Department: "It was a mother and two sons and it was the older son put the younger son on his back and carried him up the steep embankment. It was a pretty good rescue by the older son."

Investigators aren't sure if slick roads caused the accident. They are still trying to find out. We don't have the ages of the boys; however we're told the older boy is 12 or 13.

No one was seriously hurt, just some bumps and bruises. Rescuers say the family will be just fine and they have one brave little boy to thank for that.
