State prison inmate gets 25 years tacked onto his sentence for attacking a guard

Updated:
McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- An inmate at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary has had 25 years added to his sentence for attacking a prison officer.

David Keith Williams, 39, managed to open the door of his cell on Oklahoma State Penitentiary's A Unit and briefly took Cpl. Carl Sager hostage on Oct. 8, 2003. Sager suffered a cut on the hand, which required five stitches to close, during the incident, OSP officials said. Williams held a homemade knife to Sager's throat before dropping the knife and surrendering.

Williams new sentence will begin at the end of his current sentence in 2010.

Sager, who graduated from the Correctional Officers' Academy three years before the assault, continues to work at OSP.
