BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) -- A Tulsa company plans to purchase property to build a duplex and eight new single family homes in downtown Bartlesville.
The Washington Group will purchase property from the Bartlesville Redevelopment Trust Authority.
While home construction has been taking place in newer areas of the city, officials have worked to secure new housing projects in older, existing neighborhoods.
"It has been difficult to find a way to encourage in-fill housing to take place in the existing downtown residential area of Bartlesville," Downtown Development Director Ron Nikkel said. The sale is expected to close by the end of January.
"It is my belief that this may be one of the first new residential properties to be built in the downtown area for many, many years.
"It is my hope that seeing this new construction take place will demonstrate that there is new life and an opportunity for growth in the downtown Bartlesville area."
