Bristow residents protest construction work on a city park's rock wall

Updated:
It's out with the old and in with the new in Bristow, but not everyone is happy about it. Workers are tearing out a 4-block long rock wall at Klinger Smith Park.

They've already got new bricks on site to build a new wall, but some local residents want to preserve the wall. They say the wall was built by the WPA and dedicated by Eleanor Roosevelt.

Protestors say its part of Bristow's past and should be restored and preserved. Historian Floyd Sharrock: "Now we're hoping that the mayor will stop it and uh that the publicity will enable the reconstruction, the preservation rather than the destruction of significant historic property.”

Members of the Bristow Historical Society are trying to make the whole area eligible to be put on the National Historic Register of Historic Places.
