State senator announces for labor commissioner

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ State Senator Frank Shurden is joining the race for state labor commissioner.

Shurden joins former state Representative Lloyd Fields in running for the Democratic nomination to challenge incumbent Republican Labor Commissioner Brenda Reneau who is seeking re-election.

Shurden is known for his efforts to require castration of convicted sex offenders and for defending those who were involved in cockfighting. He introduced a bill last year that would've allowed cockfighting if the roosters were fitted with miniature boxing gloves instead of sharp spurs.
