One person is dead after being hit by train early Thursday morning.

It happened near Tecumseh and Irvington about 5 AM. Authorities say a man and a woman were walking on the railroad tracks when a northbound train approached.

The engineer sounded the horn and slowed the train. The man got off the tracks but the 18 year old woman did not.

She was hit by the train and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.
